Author, Television Host, Speaker,
Former Boxing Professional Boxing Coach
Kerry Pharr is an author, inspirational speaker, former professional boxing trainer, and the host of “In Your Corner” a men’s television program that airs nationally every week on Direct TV. Kerry is devoted to helping others improve their lives. Kerry pulls no punches when he speaks of overcoming addictions and adversities, because his life was literally turned around by the power of Jesus Christ.
The victim of sexual abuse as a child, Pharr also grew up fighting with an angry spirit. A self-described juvenile delinquent, he found redemption in the awesome power of the Lord. He turned his fistic prowess into a successful career teaching young men to box. He rubbed shoulders with such boxing greats as Muhammad Ali, “Big” John Tate, Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas “the Hitman” Hearns and George Foreman.
Pharr became a beacon of light in a seedy sport that famed writer Jimmy Cannon once called “the red light district of sports.”Former lightweight champion Sean O’Grady once said that “Kerry Pharr is one of the good guys in professional boxing.”
In 1997 Pharr wrote the inspirational book Fight The Good Fight, which details his touching story of personal redemption and how he survived and even thrived as a professional boxing manager, trainer and promoter. He relates how he survived setbacks, tragedies and failures and moved on even while contemplating suicide after the death of his wife to cancer.
His life-changing work consists of a weekly TV show entitled In Your Corner that airs nationally on Direct TV, evangelistic outreach programs and motivational speaking on overcoming adversity. He regularly speaks to college students, civic clubs, business meetings and churches to spread the wisdom and power of the Word of God.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first, and also for the Greek.” Romans 1:16
