Pastor Pearlie F. Smith - Biography

The gift to serve is one of the greatest gifts a person could possess in measurements of giving back.  My life has been influenced by a belief system present in a neighborhood that held a viable interest in where they lived, even though that venue was initially public housing. The commitment to its upkeep fell upon the shoulders of everyone that lived within the community.

To look at the existing state of the neighborhood from whence I come, sets off within me the need to restore hope by means of education, training, housing and social infrastructure.  Tools that is necessary in the holistic approach of rebuilding lives.  For I was hungry and you fed me; I was thirsty and you gave me water; I was a stranger and you took me into your homes; naked and you clothed me; sick and in prison, and you visited me, are the principles and application Christians are to follow daily.  We should look for opportunities to serve.  It is my duty and responsibility to take the living word of God and make it reachable, obtainable before the lives of citizen we serve, who does not necessarily belong to any religious affiliations.  My goal is to serve all mankind to the capacity I can with the services and programs we offer that empowers a community to be resilient, self-sufficient and economically viable.

What prepared me most in serving Gods' people was life on day to day basics.  The things I saw, people I encounter, the stories they shared of survival, making it work with nothing and yet keeping it moving.  These experiences had a significant impact on my life and the decisions to pursue a career in community service.  Having been giving the first opportunity to serve as a Community Service Coordinator with the Economic Improvement Council of Northeastern, North Carolina,  was my first exposure to serving citizens on a broader scale.  Which forever change my path and direction in years to come.  The hours are long, the days are short but for every smile or thank you or the glimpse of hope tomorrow will bring, is Worth the TRAVAIL.  My mission is to impact the world one person at a time, to change the face of lack and disparity into comforts of joy, peace and prosperity.  And now abide faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is LOVE!!!
